Hello! My name is Nolan Jessen. I’m a junior-level undergraduate at UC San Diego majoring in Business Economics
with a planned minor in Business Analytics.
I grew up in Campbell, California, in the Bay Area. I’m still actively involved in this community, particularly
through my long-standing volunteer work with the Friends of Campbell Library. Over the past eight years, I've
contributed to many fundraising efforts, recently contributing toward a major $22M+ library remodel in 2023.
As their Social Media Manager, I’ve led initiatives to improve the FOCL's digital presence. I typically execute
social media campaigns to promote monthly book sales and special events.
My professional journey started at California’s Great America, where I operated and ensured the safety of 10
rides over 2 seasons. I operated control panels, delivered the ride spiel, mastered safety protocols, and
provided guest support while delivering a great experience. I was also selected for the iROC training program
and completed the class and examination to become a certified trainer.
More recently, I moved to San Diego to pursue my education. I earned my associate's degree in Economics from
San Diego Mesa College this year, where I graduated as a valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA. At Mesa, I participated
in their Honors Program for courses such as Microeconomics and was also on the Dean’s List for 2022-2023. While
getting my associate’s, I worked full-time in Fulfillment at Target. Other than assisting day-to-day operations,
my role consists of directing team members to complete guest orders before deadlines and tracking operational
metrics to help set expectations and optimize areas for improvement. I also publish weekly performance
evaluations for over 30 team members using Excel.
Now, I've taken a step back at Target to be part-time, while I pursue my bachelor's from UC San Diego. At UC
San Diego, I just started volunteering as a technology intern in their extended studies division. I'm also a
part of the UCSD Themed Entertainment Association to pursue my interest in the theme park industry.
With a natural ability for analytical thinking and organization, I’m driven by an internal desire to make a
tangible impact on businesses I care about. Whether it's continuing to support my local community library,
operating the rides I enjoyed as a kid, or directing operations at the store I shop the most at. I strive
to bring value and excellence to everything I do.
